Anke Kuhl is an award-winning children’s artist and graphic novelist. Rights to Kuhl’s 2020 middle-grade graphic memoir Manno! (“C’mon!”) are represented by Grand Design Communications.

Recently, Kuhl’s children’s science book on animal reproduction with writer Katharina von der Gathen, Do Animals Fall In Love?, was published in English by Gecko Press. On May 13th, the same publisher of the English edition of the duo’s previous collaboration, Tell Me: What Children Really Want to Know about Bodies, Sex, and Emotions, Gecko Press, let Anke take over their Instagram account for a day.

In her post, Anke invites readers into her studio, showing them her tools, in particular, her trusty lightbox, as well as sketches and commentary on her techniques. It’s truly a fascinating glimpse into an artist at work.

Anke also includes a short video “flick through” of Do Animals Fall In Love?:
