A collaboration between the French-born artist Thierry Capezzone, who has lived in Denmark since 1993, and the Danish-born, France-residing writer Erik Swan, Daisy – A Princess of Denmark tells the story of  the life and upbringing of a thoroughly modern royal, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. Volume 1 covers the first 32 years of Margrethe’s life, from her birth to coronation.  Born in 1940, just a week after the German occupation of Denmark began, she was baptized Margrethe Alexandrine Þorhildur Ingrid, but was given by his family nicknamed Daisy.  Everyone expects that she will remain ‘just’ a princess for the rest of her life, but shortly before her 12th birthday, this studious and thoughtful girl finds out that one day – thanks to a constitutional change to the Act of Succession – she will take over her father’s throne and become Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II.  Volume 2 will bring the story into the modern age, as Denmark develops one of the highest standards of living in the world and Margrethe pursues an interest in painting and illustration, including illustrating (under a pseudonym) the Danish editions of The Lord of the Rings.
